A 2 CENTRE HOLIDAY at NO EXTRA CHARGE!

bg06 176webl.jpg

If you would like to experience the very different life of a small village in the country as part of your holiday, we also offer accommodation in our old cottage in Dobrina, which is a 55 minute drive from Chaika Beach and 4km from the town of Provadia.

We can arrange taxi transport between Chaika Beach and Dobrina (for which you pay the driver around 35 leva in each direction). You can stay for any number of days, at any time during your holiday (if and when it is available).

This option is also available as a stand-alone holiday (please ask for further information)

The village is on a plateau, providing beautiful views of fields and the distant hills of the Stara Planina range which are scattered with small villages. You will feel that you have stepped back in time: life in villages goes on much the same as it has done for generations.

2005_411boris-s.JPG Dobrina is a traditional Bulgarian village where people grow fruit and vegetables on the land around their houses and often in the fields around the village, where they travel by horse or donkey cart, and use age-old methods of farming.

If you choose to stay here, it will be a very different experience for you. You will certainly be among friends - the neighbours and other village people. They are mostly Bulgarian, but we also have a few English neighbours. All of them will be happy to help, however they can. You may even be invited to their homes. Don't worry about the language - you will manage!

new bdm 2 wb.jpg All our rooms are simple and functional. Our general aim has been to keep the original character wherever possible. These traditional beds can be found in many village houses, doubling as daytime sofas. They are a generous width, and have spring link bases for comfort. Each one has its own bedding, so you can make it up just how you like it.

new lounge 2 web.JPG The upstairs lounge is light and airy, simply furnished with two sofa-beds, a table, and a wardrobe. We have used real hand-made Bulgarian rugs on the wooden floors, for that traditional look. We have fitted insect screens on  all the opening windows at the front of the house, so fresh air is not a problem day or night.

kit table wb.jpg Downstairs we have a room where you can make coffee, cook on a portable gas hob, and keep your food and drink cool in the refrigerator. If you want to eat indoors, we have this large wooden table and benches. The floor is fully tiled for hygiene and ease of cleaning.

cook-out.jpg It is also fun to cook, eat, and drink outside! You have the choice of being in the open, under the shade of the grape vine, or in a covered seating area overlooking the garden, which we are currently building (September 2009) .

eat in courtyd.jpg It's a lovely sunny day - why not enjoy it? You can set up a table and move the gas hob outside in no time. Some simple preparation, and you can sit in the shade and enjoy that fresh, tasty locally-grown produce.

The house has a good modern wetroom with a shower, toilet, wash-hand basin and a sink with a draining board. We provide clean towels for up to four guests.

peshtera.jpg The Dobrina area is ideal for walking, whether you just have a stroll around the village, or venture further afield along the roads and tracks and onto the moors above the village where the views are spectacular. This old rock monastery is about one hour's walk away, but you will need a guide to find it (we can organise this for you).

Though a world apart in terms of its atmosphere, Dobrina is only 4km from Provadia which offers all the conveniences of a major town: several banks, numerous cafe-bars and restaurants, supermarkets, and all kinds of shops. There is a very cheap bus service a few times a day. It is not direct, but is an interesting option if you want to see some of the surrounding area and nearby villages. The one-way taxi fare is just 7 leva (about £3), or you can walk it in around 45 minutes, though you will probably find that someone will offer you a lift on the way - this could be in anything from a donkey cart to a People Carrier!

The photo shows the long winding road down the gorge, with Provadia in the distance.
